Battlefield 2142 Preview  by James W at 01:08

PC
GameSpot have some Pre-E3 impressions of Battlefield 2142 after talking with Markus Nielsen, senior producer at DiCE.

There are two big question marks for Battlefield 2142. First, will its sci-fi roots appeal to the Battlefield fan base? The Battlefield series was built on portraying historical and modern-day conflicts, letting up to 64 players wage virtual war with real-world weapons and vehicles. In Battlefield 2142, the action veers into science-fiction territory--it's set in a world where a new ice age sparks a global war. Second, will Battlefield 2142 be able to lure players away from Battlefield 2, which remains wildly popular even nine months after launch? Judging from what Nielsen had to say, it sounds like the developers have taken these questions into account.

Yeah, depends how well they adapt the realism, I can see it being a great game but if the environment/weapons are more fantasy and less believable I would expect most to stick with bf2.

I like the fact that BF2 is set in modern day, alot of the things they are implimenting in 2142(gun customisation, mobile spawn points etc) should have been implimented into original BF2 i think

Thats a Sh*t , I had intended to boycott this on the grounds that it was to soon after BF2 & that they had ripped us off with Euro forces ( I would also argue that Special forces is a game I never play ... ) but & it does look interesting . I will still not rush to buy this game , if it is to close to BF2 in game play then I just dont want to give EA my dosh
