Battlefield 2142 Coming This Year  by Craig D at 09:52

Just about everyone is linking to this youtube movie which appears to be from a cover disk from PC Gamer, that would also seem to confirm the game is scheduled to ship this autumn.

Ok, so we were expecting Battlefield 2142 soon enough, but I personally wasn't expecting it till next year at the earliest.

Joystiq also have details of the leaked cover story, some things immediately jump out like the ability to play co-op versus an A.I. team for example.

But, BF2 is getting more popular by the day, its not worth releasing a new game? They should try and improve what they have.

Aye surely it's just a 'mod' that they'll charge people full price for. Although I like the idea of co-op. i've always loved getting together with mates and playing against the comp. Like Doom for example. And what was the other one I pld at a lan, join operations i think. Was great fun playing in a squad against the computer.

It's lacking in any sort of style whatsoever

bland war-torn future landscape = check
badly designed big robots = check

lol, they're all nicked from C&C anyway. The robots are just mechs and they're always fun to drive around in owning little infantry

It looks ok, I'm with Re0, BF2 still has lot of life in it, and this coming out will kill it fairly quickly.

Yes ... but game play will dictate the real success of this title. I will watch & see, QW:ET on the other hand is more likely to dilute my BF2 focus . The thing which bugs me though is EA's modus operandi is to respond to threats by releasing buggy serial titles as opposed driving licence revenues thought strong moding / community support. That's how Valve did it & look at the results.

Hey wait a sec! What about BF2? Hello? The BF2 community is still growing, the game needs more patching (and free content, btw) and it hasn't even been out a year yet. What da heck? EA is just money-grubbing because their profits have been so low lately. 2142 is just going to be another rushed, buggy title for us to play with until the NEXT BF2 title comes out next year and so on... The BF series is now in the "Madden" phase. *sigh*

He's right on some parts. I doubt 2142 is going to be rushed but I have no doubt it's going to be shit.
