The as-yet-untitled "Star Trek" feature, the 11th since 1979, is aiming for a fall 2008 release through Paramount Pictures, the Viacom Inc. unit looking to restore its box-office luster under new management, the trade paper said.

The project will be directed by J.J. Abrams, whose Tom Cruise vehicle "Mission: Impossible III" will be released by Paramount on May 5. Abrams, famed for producing the TV shows "Alias" and "Lost," will also help write and produce.

Daily Variety said the action would center on the early days of "Star Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer-space mission.

i had same issues, my dad loved star trek so always used to watch it over dinner watched all of them. found deep space 9 as my fav as it had a bit more action in it. first contact as quite a good movie as it had some action. stopped watching now though. turned my attention to stargate sg1/atlantis and other shows 24,prison break, shield, the unit.

i would like to see a TNG/Voyager Combi film, maybe a bit of DS9 thrown in for good measure, Kirk and Spock have been done
time and time again, bit tired of those movies. a new fresh story wouldnt go a miss.

Fool. The Wrath of Khan ****ing rocks, Star Trek or not its an awesome film. The Undiscovered Country and First Contact are also v good. But I have to admit, even as a trekkie, the others are pretty wank and 3 out of 10 isn't a particularly good record :/. I dunno about this next one, it depends really, Enterprise showed that going back into Star Trek history isn't really the way forward, but then again if they cast it right and get some decent action in there, with Kirk pulling out some pro tactical moves to win battles etc I think it could be quite good. Fingers crossed though, another bad film in the Trekkie universe could be the end me thinks. I read somewhere a while back that Brian Singer wanted to do a Trek movie and im disappointed he isn't doing the next one. :[

i dunno wrath of khan is ok but its a bit too... plastic if you know what i mean, i grew up watching Startrek: the next gen, etc.. [my dad's a sci-fi nut Babylon 5, Galatica, Trekk, etc..], but the story behind wrath of khan is pretty good landen however i would say its a bit too dated for the likes of me and jammin

Can't say I'm a fan of Star Trek. I remember watching generations when I was a kid but that was mostly because my dad used to watch it. I found it pretty dull even when there was the rare action scene.

I'd honestly rather watch Eastenders now. I really hate Eastenders...
