Had my headset for over a year now and it is falling to bits.. mic doesn't work on it and only one of the sides work lol. So just wondering could you guys recommend any decent headsets for around 40 quid..?

Sennheiser PC-161

You could also get the 151s which are cheaper. I've been using Sennheiser headsets for about 6 years now and I'm very happy with them.

decent headphones > anything else for positional sound in games. Ask Bri and Liam, I could hear things they couldn't while playing L4D and from miles away on the map too

Sennheiser every day of the week for me. Closely followed by SteelSeries.

I use sennheiser HD205's.. which are not even close to the best sennheiser headphones but my proper ones broke and these were £30 in pcworld a few months ago and now i've grown used to them

I would add that I still have a pair of 161's as linked by Scrapps, they were 80 odd quid when I started using mine and were worth every penny. At £42 they are a bargain

Just as everyone here has said go Sennheiser EVERY time, but be warned their cables are renound for being dodgy and constantly breaking, so if you buy one with a replaceable cable be warned you will probs have to buy a new cable every year. The cable is not covered in the warrenty.

You get what you pay for, and with headphones its worth spending the money as EVERY top gamer uses headphones they just blow away speakers by FAR.
