Re-installed it the other day, thought i'd try and see if i can play it through to the end this time. Played it when it first came out and just got bored half-way through.
Anyone liked/dis-liked it?

Not really, they screwed up the shotgun, didnt include the DB shotgun. The lvl design was shocking as was the A.I. It was boring, it was two nme's spawn infront one behind every time. It didnt deserve to be called a doom game, it was shocking, hell even the gfx were too shiny. I had to force myself to play and complete it, i think S H I T E is a fair statement to make on doom3.

Just completed doom 3. Really good game. First half is shit, but once you get to the hell level onwards it's really good. Just installed the expansion.

I used to kid myself saying it was good. I did enjoy it while I was playing it.
Then I played the 'alpha' leak again and it hit me just how shit Doom 3 was.
It's not often a leaked 10 minute E3 demo is better then a full 12 hour game. The E3 demo was full of ideas, and inovative scares, design and death cutscenes/sequences. The full game was not.
I liked the alpha labs, they tried to play wioth your mind for about 5 minutes like they did in the E3 demo but then it just turned back into another run and gun.
Doom 3 just pimped the engine.
I do agree with SOME of what stan said. There's a lot they did screw up, but I think the real problem is that they stuck far TOO close to the original Doom's gameplay. it has a right to call its self a Doom game, it has pretty much the same gameplay... the gameplay is just too outdated for todays market.

Was nothing like original doom imo, if it was, it'd have been half decent.
Doom involved running around like a madman blowing up tons of enemies, doom 3 couldn't have more than a few enemies on screen any anyone time cos the shadowing demands would kill any pc out there at the time.
and I'd agree, shite is a pretty fair statement, the defualt audio was shoddy (hello scratchy 22kHz sound?), the game was insanely predicatable and still barely a challenge on nightmare, mostly for that reason. I seem to remember the only bit that half suprised me after the first 5 enemies was the random cubby hole in the wall containing na imp in it with another cubby hole (with another imp) inside it. The game appeared to be an attempt to cross doom style and horror shooter style yet failed on both, to anyone who'd played any previous horror/stealth game the ideas used throughout d3 never progressed beyond what you'd find in the first level of those other games.
"I liked the alpha labs, they tried to play wioth your mind for about 5 minutes like they did in the E3 demo but then it just turned back into another run and gun."
Even that build up was still pretty meh compared to what I've seen in some games. Especially when all it ends in is a crappy imp dropping out of the vent which dies in half a second when you hit it in the face with the shotty. :/
I think alot of the problem was it was simply too scripted, there was one section near a lvl at the start of the game where you could open a door but not walk through it, and lob a grenade behind some filing cabinets in the next room, it would explode and dead marine bits would appear, you could then walk through the door and the marine radio "ive seen you" sound would play from that location despite the fact that you'd already killed them.

Well seems like im the exception as ever, D:. I enjoyed doom3 whilst I was playing it, not gonna go into details as to why because i cba with an argument. It did become rather predictable towards the end however, you could see an "ambush" coming from a mile away. I dled the add on pack for it the other day, played it for about 25mins and won't be playing it again, same old same old and the "grav gun" was shite.

I enjoyed the start and the end of Doom3 chris, just found the middle part boring. I did however complete it, while not bothering to complete HL2

But did you play the alpha leak? Two completely different games. Bambers although the Doom3 couldn't have a lot of enemies on screen at the same time - the gameplay was still virtually the same as Doom. There were SOME stuff that was actually done really well. There was a part when you'd enter a room, the whole screen would go red and things would start to fly around the room. There was another part in a corridor where you'd hear a crying baby when the door locked infront of you. That was really good and I was starting to think "damn maybe it's going to get better" but it never did. I agree with Malis 100% on the beginning and end being good. The middle was mighty boring... but the action kept me playing it. I think I was just sucked into the whole 'killing demons' thing. I think Doom 3 is the perfect example of Marmite really. I dunno why, but it did come across as a bit of a budget title... I thought people got over this "scripted" stuff a while ago though. It was also too scripted I agree bambers. [off topic for a moment] I remember when that HL2 build was leaked. people had some facination with whining about scripted games. They really thought it was something seriously bad, I swear some of them didn't even know what it meant. half the time, the more unscripted a game is, the more boring it can be!
