Gabe Newell Hates the PS3?  by Craig D at 20:57

This is just priceless and sure to kick off a fan boy storm of Epic proportions all over the interweb. In an interview in Game Informer magazine, MCV is reporting that Valve co-founder and respected industry figure Gabe Newell has had an almighty pop at Sony and their Playstation 3 console.

The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell. "I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over’. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.

Gabe does however really like the Wii.
The happy story is the Wii," he added. "I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everything that Nintendo is doing.

He also predicts that the Wii will outsell the Xbox 360 by next Christmas. I can't wait to read the full interview.

If this is true, then Gabe is a bit of a ****ing numb nut considering they're developing for it.

Of course I don't take anything Mr Newell says too seriously, but regardless of whether he's right or wrong, it's a damaging remark for Sony considering his industry presence.

Sorry the bloke is a tool , what does he gain out of alienating Sony ? Does he think we will all buy his games or from his distribution channel because he is cool & outspoken ?

Whether you like him or not, hes got a point. Fanboys may disagree but sony have ballsed the PS3 release up plain and simple.

I know very little people that are actually lining up to buy one, compare that to the fact Wii's are still hard to get even in the states nevermind the UK and i think youve got all the facts you need to say some of what hes saying is true.

I also read somewhere that people are putting PS3 for Wii trade requests up in the states, I bet Sony only saw that coming in there worst nightmares.

im no fanboy but i think mr. newell is wrong. the wii is for kids like trix. the ps3 is a power game console that does not pause when your in the middle of playing a game. i don't understand when someone says what is it? its a game console! easy? the ps3 will win the console war again. sony cant be beat here.

That's what we all sead about Atari then SEGA and then latterly Nintendo.

Sony have most definitley shot themselves in the foot more than once this time around and might just be joining that most unwelcome list.

I would like a PS3 with Wii controller for £200 please ... If they did that then they might have a killer console. As it stands right it looks like the 360 seems the most balanced platform in terms of cool titles & killer graphics.

my 360 has become redundent since getting my Wii. The Graphics can't match the fun that the wii provides at all for me at the moment.

The Wii is for kids? protest all you like but I smell fanboy a mile away. How on earth, after such a disasterous launch, can you proclaim sony the victor. If this was a race, the 360 would allready be on lap 10, the Wii would of recorded the worlds best time out of the blocks, while the ps3 is still putting its shoes on.

And this is coming from someone who valued his playstations, both 1 and 2, more than all the other consoles, and I have owned them all. Just face it, sony have released an over priced console with only one title worth having. While I was willing to pay 180 quid for awsome multiplayer fun, and an amazing zelda, I'm not willing to spend 450 quid so i can play resistance and final fantasy XIII.

They are losing the exclusives, they've lost the plot with the pricing and they've lost a hell of alot of customers. How that equates to winning the console war I can only assume you are on some form of narcotics

SONY had to drop the price of ps3's by 20% AND add HDMI in japan to try coax the Japs into buying them if the japs that build them wont buy them. The yanks havent bought that many and im certainly not going to, Sony better be right about cutting into foreign markets like poland and uzbekistan or they will be followong Jesus to a public flogging and hideous death.
