PlayStation 3 Not Selling that Well?  by Craig D at 16:06

Playstation
I didn't read much news yesterday for obvious reasons but if I had I would have surely pointed you all in the direction of this story on Kotaku. It would seem that for one reason or another most of the big stores in North America have lots of Playstation 3's in stock and none seem to be selling very many either. A bit strange for a new console really, but then it is stupidly expensive for a games machine.

To counter that, I still can't find a HD-DVD drive for my Xbox 360 and am told that it ill be at least a week before anyone has any here in the UK. Is Blu-Ray going to be Sony's Achilles heel?

Lol keep up nego its one of the only major selling points of the ps3, its one of two types of Hi definition dvd drives. The ps3 has a blueray drive the 360 has a addon HD-DVD drive, neither of these are compatible with the others tho. Its like the vhs vs betamax years ago two competing formats battle it out for their lives to see which one will take over the world !

There's more games I'm looking forward to on the PS3 then the 360 tbh. They just don't have a good launch list... which tbh I don't give two shits about.

yeah but an extra £300 over the 360 for similar graphics and more expensive and less games and a posh DVD drive you dont want cos then films cost £30 and also an ever rolling back delivery, and only the expensive version in the UK isnt the best way to launch a console IMO and now this even more of a cos version hmmmm.
as for the blue ray being the main sellign point read the polls in america 97% of people bought a ps3 for the graphics %70 of them didnt know what blue ray was.
I can actually see the sense in the media centre edition but there should be a version without the blue ray and £300 less to match the performance with its price

I aint sure what you been shopping, but almost every Blueray disk I have seen is between 10 quid and 17.99. I also exspect that they will use all of the extra space on blueray disks for higher res textures or more voices in games etc, so if they sold two versions then in essence they could no longer make games on blueray because some people wouldnt have it. Also you wouldnt believe how many times I had to read your post to even get the jist of it.

Personally im hoping for HD-DVD, mainly because as a media format its not as DRM happy.
I mean some of the ideas for Blueray (hardware coding games/videos to work on only one device) are just stupid. because they effect the general public much worse than they will effect any Pirate.

I mean for the general public (an small example) - No game swapping with freinds- No Trade ins @ Game
Not being able to play your favorite games at your freinds house because they dont have an individual copy.

Pirate about 3hours of codebreaking, and a bit of smart welding/ modding, and presto any game works.

SENT, I really don't care about which console has the most games either. All I'm interested in is quality and I'm sorry, there's alot more I'm interested in on the PS3 then 360. Also for the lengh 360 has been out, there still isn't that many top games... I also couldn't give a damn about DVD costs and Blue Ray, I'll be buying the console for the games; if I wanna watch a film I'm perfectly happy with my DVD player. BTW, yes I'm willing to pay that much (not for ver. 3) for a PS3 to get at the games I enjoy. Although I do like my 360 and I enjoy the games it has, nothing has stood out for me yet.

whats really standing out for the ps3 tho? everything ive seen so far looks poor, the only thing i wanna play is the new final fantasy but im not wasting the good part of 500 quid just for that 1 game

Final fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, DMC4, MGS4, SoTC2, Final Fantasy VII (hopefully), Resistance, Gran Turismo HD, resident evil 5, Alone in the Dark, Stranglehold, Heavenly Sword, God of War 3 (hopefully), Lair and Killzone (from the top of my head) stand out for me. Personally I dunno how you can say everything looks poor... already I've named more games then I own on my 360.

I'll agree with some of those games, but you're smoking something if you think Resistance looks any better than all the other FPS you hate on the PC

Also I'm not convinced about exclusivity on games for any console anymore, indeed at least three of the games you've listed will be on Xbox360/PC

As for myself, the 360 has a limited range of titles that are true gems, but is starting to find its feet after a year. I've no doubt that a year into the PS3's life I'll take another look at it and find myself older with more disposable income, and a machine that will surely have had a price cut. Roll on summer 2008.

Never said I hated FPS games...

Anyway, it's supposed to be a very good game and I like the looks of it: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/resistancefallofman
