Broadband Speeds Increase? ADSL2+  by Shane L at 08:53

Fancy ditching your trusty Cable and switching to ADSL ?

I will provide a link straight to this article because at the moment I am still mulling over the thought of a 24mb connection.
ADSL2+ will give you a much greater bandwidth to the home. So for instance if you live within two kilometres of a central exchange you can have up to 24 megabits to your home. Alternatively, you can run ADSL in 'Reach Extended' mode and have up to 200 kilobits up to seven kilometres from the local exchange. So you have it both ways - either lots of capacity close to, or less but further out, compared to ADSL.

Interesting. Although I'm sure when ADSL2 becomes available we'll see the cable companies matching the speeds. ADSL has the old copper wires problem to get around that they now seem to have partly solved. The cable companies running on fibre optics already have the technology to bring us those sorts of speeds.

seems stupid that they dont give us higher speeds already, and as everyone knows the new prices will be stupidly expensive (to start with)

Standard business plan mate. Ain't nothing we can do about it. Other than starting up a cable company, laying the infastructure then charging 20quid for a 24Mb line
