My faithful 4 year old mp3 player has virtually popped its clogs and basically I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I HATE IPODS! So that's basically a backup.

Want a bit more space than before as well, so far I've looked at:
Creative zen vision M (60gb)
Microsoft Zune (80gb) 2nd Gen

Will probably be doing lots of running with it as well so needs to be fairly durable.
Scrolling button is a necessity, don't have the patience to press up about 100 times to get to the song I want.

Is the zune out in the uk?, I always thoght if my ipod dies i would go zen,

the zune sucks from all the reviews i've read. Get the apple ipod touch - yes it's an ipod but it's ****ing awesome and hackable. I've got doom and loads of snes games running on it with plenty of space for high quality movies etc. It's the same as the iphone without the phone but so it's awesome to use and the web browser actually works a charm.

I know I won't use all that crap, its only 16gb and costs £250, what a load of bull! I watched a cnet video review of the 2nd gen zune and they seemed pretty impressed. Looks awesome, apparently the official release of Zune here is next winter (!?)

I had a creative zen for a while - not that hot, back in the day and ended up buying an Ipod. Im sure they;re much nicer now.

If i was you and only want music to listen to while out id buy a nano, something you can just put on random and run about with.

Where does this hatred of iPods/iTunes come from?!?

iPods are notoriously unreliable and Apple have such appalling customer service is one reason. Massive DRM infestations and the fact the most purchases from iTunes are not mp3's don't help either.

Well personally, I don't think it has to come from anywhere, but I will digress.

Firstly, I hate the fact that a lot of people call mp3 players, ipods. "ohh thats a nice ipod!" "Its not an ipod?"

Secondly, I hate how everyone has one, they are some kind of fashion statement, and have a monopoly on the market, which I don't think is deserved, they're not THAT good.

Thirdly. choice. I like to be able to pick what software I use for putting stuff on my mp3 player, not be locked into some crappy software that runs like a piece o'crap.

Oh and every time a new ipod is released its so overhyped it makes me want to vomit on whoever has one.

I'm sure I could think of more if i tried but that's just off the top of my head. /rantover

I also share the hatred for the iPod. And what did I get for Christmas but an iPod so now they're uber, would be rude otherwise

Also hate how everyone calls any ****ing sound file on the internet a podcast. God damn Apple. Was watching a presentation at this tradeshow by Apple and the guy was saying how awesome it was you save this file and you can play it on your iPod or your iPhone or your iTouch. Mp3 players play mp3s, well done Apple. Slick bastards, damn them and their trendyness.

I kept seeing the Microsoft Zune (brown) dirt cheap on lots of websites. Purely because no one wants a brown one but they were super good value for money. Not sure if they are still cheap, but might be worth looking into (especially if you don't care about fashion )

gezz man get the sony mp3/4 thing...its lik 8 gb and smalled than an nano...and much better sound aulity and battery life. its called something nw a818 or something

Was looking at the reviews of the Sony. It sounds bloody good, in fact I might have to get one myself since I stood on my nano. Let us know what you got Jammin and how good it is?

I got the cheap one, there is a link up there! Erm, well I got what I paid for, sound quality is fairly low, but I use it for running! Uses AAA Batteries as well which is rather irritating. However it did cost £25 and its got 4gb storage, so I'm happy!
