According to engadget, The British government are planing to outlaw stanby mode on TV's,DVD's, PC's Etc. To help cut down on enegy wasteage, makes sence to me, but it seams a bit of a radical step!

That's outrageous! It means I have to reach over to my TV to turn it on!

I think its a good thing. If everyone turned everything off standby they could close one of our powerstations. Its a stupid amount of eleccy.

my tv is always on stand-by... why dont they just make it less energy consuming or sumthing. If the ban was to go ahead; people would start selling long poker sticks instead of remotes

I think the problem is that no matter how little power each TV alone might use on standby, all the TVs across the country add up to a fair amount.
Shit - I'm in two minds about this one. I think I'm against forcing companies to remove standby functions...but personally I try really hard not to put things in standby if I can just turn it off. Might save me 20p on my leccy bills, but it does add up around the house.
