Sounds like the new media player isnt that far off, I've never really liked WMP10, 9 looks nicer and I dont use any of the new features. That said how many people use a 3rd party player such as Winamp, Media Player Classic, Zoom anyway?

CNet While most people won't be able to get their hands on Vista until next year, consumers will be able to get some of the media enhancements sooner. Microsoft is on track to release a Windows XP version of Windows Media Player 11 before the end of June, the company confirmed last week.

Microsoft has said the XP version won't have all the features of its Vista sibling, but the company won't say which features will be excluded. The company also has yet to offer a public test version of the software.

The Vista version, which has been in public testing for months, offers significant changes from the current version of the media-playing software, particularly when connecting to portable devices.

Same here, for videos anyhow, i dont like it for MP3s as i cant be arsed to figer the playlists out (so i use iTunes).

seams silly to me using 4 programs when one does it just fine.

Three things that id like to see in the new windows media player:

Converts all music into mp3 automatically (rather than wma)
Has a search for duplicates option - like iTunes
Is faster (because it runs sllloooowww with lotsa music onnit)

You can make it rip straight to mp3, you just need to set it

Duplicates is annoying, but tbh if you just search for whatever song u think u might have a duplicate of u can see. And tbh you shouldnt have duplicates anyway!

WMP isnt slow for me, except maybe when i start it, but then i just leave it on in the background till' i turn my PC off.

I sorta change between players, for video I liked Media Player Classic but I've recently found it cains my system when full screen for some reason. I use Winamp for audio but I've had problems with video in the past, tbh I cant remember what problems.

I used Sonicstage when i had a minidisc player and it was awful. You should really have a look around for other software!
