I am looking to collect some of the best sounding cds currently available, i don't mind the genre as long as it isn't Britney.

A few of my current best sounding cs [don't judge the music !]

Eric Clapton live and acoustic - It sounds like you are there

Angie Stone Mahogany Soul - Just superb album and great sounding.

I am also looking to get into classical, but there is so much stuff out there, what is the best sounding and best recorded classical albums ?

Pendulum - Hold your colour.

Atmospheric Drum and Bass, really is an amazing album, can listen to it over and over again, I'm not really into my DnB either!

I know I said any genre but not really a fan of dance music or drum and base, as well they aint what I class as relaxing. Still will give this one a go as you never know, maybe what I heard in the past was a bad example of the genre.

Also don't forget I don't just want your fave album but the best produced/sounding ones.

Norah Jones - Come with me

Jonnie Mitche - A album I don't know the name off but has paving heaven as the 3rd track.

I have been doing a bit of googling and this album seems to be in most lists of best sounding cds.

Air - Everybody Hertz / 10,000 Legend

Thinking of ordering this album as its only about £5

Thanks for all the suggestions mate

In terms of classical pretty much anything by Debussy is great, I would recommend Claire Du Lune and other Piano favourites, Claire Du Lune being one of the greatest pieces of music ever written.

In classical aswell I would also recommend (if you dont mind some singing) Gilbert and Sullivan's - The Mikado

The soundtrack to The Thin Red Line is also really good for something a bit different.

Not classical but some favourites atm would be
Aaron Goldberg - Worlds
Atmosphere - When The World Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold
Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts
Bruce Cockburn - The Charity Of Night

Moon Safari is their best one!
I thought of another album!

Xavier Rudd - Good Spirit . It's this Australian guy that plays ALL the instruments at the same time, seen him live about 3 times and its absolutely unbelievable!

Ok now I am the thread resurrector, although to be fair its still the top thread in this area !

I just got a cd recommended by Hifi Choice, which is by far and away the best audiophile magazine out there, blows away the idiots at what hifi.

Leif Ove Andsnes Schubert - Late Piano Sonatas D850 - D958 - D959 - D960

Wow this is one of the best performed and sounding albums I have ever heard, I kept wondering what this sound was during some of the tracks until I realised it was a member of the audience literally breathing in during the most emotional moments of the performance.

I am not a expert at all when it comes to classical music, so if anyone wants to recommend me others please feel free too.

Does anyone know the best performance of Ave Satani to get, its the famous and chilling piece of music from the omen. Even today it sends chills up my back and I would love to hear other music from the people who performed it, this is what I think of when I want to listen to classical music.
