I girl form work has handed me her lappy to try and fix - it has the BSOD.

Is it true Laptops need a different version of Windows to run than a home Pc - I firgured teh easiest way to sort it would be a fresh install.. but she doesn't have recovery discs

If its a dell, it probably has a hidden partition with a reinstall on it, should take you minutes, you will lose all the data.

Notice how he accepted it without knowing how to fix it ! If a guy had said that you woulda said 'nope sorry dunno how to fix a laptop' but 'you have boobies ? sure let me look'

Most have a hidden partition like Ryan said. f12 for mine shows it on boot.

normal xp/vista will work, you just need the manufactuers drivers once installed.

I so hate PC laptops, they are the Devil's spawn. that's why the only lappy's I ever buy are Macs. It's great advice tbh.

I think gone are the days where you needed a special install. Toshiba used to be really bad at this.

None of it gets me past BS.

I guess im gunna have to get her to pay a techy to fix it for about £80 right?

just google for how to restore the make and model of that particular one. There's bound to be a hidden partition on there or a restore disk online to download.
