Quote: Stan Also most people would find it very annoying having to turn sli on and off, and then forgetting to turn it back on for games. Plus allot of people game in one window and have irc or msn or even maybe porn in the other.
OMG stan bears all! no wonder you suck at Online gaming

Agreed Stan , res will make the difference mate but the difference is FPS between the G92 based GPU's & the 8800GTX is at max and res with IQ ia 4 - 8 FPS . Unless you go triple SLI & then its pure GTX ownage .

You have to admit though, you get far more value for money when buyiong 2x 8800GT 512MB than you do buying a GTX or Ultra. Personally I don't see what's so annoying about having to enable/disable SLi... you do the same with any other option. Maybe you're just lazy Like I said, yeah, most PC games are badly optimised, but they do improve over time. I didn't compare quad to SLi for value for money, I compared them on how they work. New games are definitely getting better with SLi though. I get a huge boost in TF2 and Crysis. Crysis goes from unplayable in Very High, to completely playable.

p.s the quad core is £50 more - depending on final bill and thoughts i may get it .... Basically is it worth my extra spend when im only really using the machine for games and occasionally burning the odd dvd

Shag just look for a GTS 512mb !!
The old ones have either 320 or 640mb of ram. All the G92's 8800GTS's have 512mb.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

my pc is up and running all good apart from the fact my dvd drive wont pick up CD's and take a while to pick up DVDs. Installed Crysis, TF2 & Downloaded patches for BF2 and 2142 ready for when re installed. gunna see how it runs for a week or so before i think about Overclocking. it has a base rate of 5.8 (memory being the lowest score) everything else is a 5.9 it all looks sexy on my 22" Belina,
