City of Heroes/City of Villains Combined Review
Hitting the streets is immediately satisfying. The busy world of Paragon City is densely populated with NPC lawbreakers and victims, meaning that if there are not a lot of people online on your server, you can always find something to do. Your powers (which you select at the start of the game and add to as you progress through the levels) allow you to beat up baddies to your hearts desire and, later in the game, to do fancy stuff like flying about.

Haha, cheers guys. It's well worth you all having a go, if for nothing else than just for the character creation screen and the horrors you can come up with.

Free pairs of Germanator's soiled orange pants being sent out to you guys as I type.

Great review. I actually followed this game's development back before the turn of the century (I love saying that). And this review does the game justice. It is simply fun to play (Though to be honest its been over a year since I played it last).

I do have one bone to pick, however (and this is something that has bothered me about every COH review I've ever read). Everyone talks about the graphics not being "anything special" and I couldn't disagree more. Are there games out there that have better looking (crisper, more detailed) graphics? Absolutely, WoW and COH look an entire generation apart from one another, with WoW being the younger of the two. But think about the sheer amount of different graphics COH's engine can and does handle. At release the game boasted 2.6 million unique (meaning 3 or more differences) costume combinations. That's "something special." How many different avatars can be built in WoW? So the COH engine sacrifices "graphical refinement" for bre

Got to be honest I hated this game, I picked up a free trial at an I-Series event and before hand had been quite keen to atleast try it out. Think I lasted all of an hour before vowing to never play it again, just wasn't a touch on WoW for me.

each to his own, I'd no doubt hate them both But at least the campness of Coh/CoV would make me laugh for a bit.

A couple of points I should probably have also mentioned:

1. The mentor/sidekick scheme. This allows other players' skills to be artifically raised to the same level as their mentor in order to progress more rapidly (or, in the case of being an exemplar, lowers the skills of the higher-level player). A great idea and really quite innovative.

2. Having seen the graphics on my high end PC, I have to concede it does look better. Not brillant, but certainly not bad. And I agree with WorseThanNormal's comments about the costume selections - really good fun designing your entirely unique hero.

It's just good fun. Nothing too in-depth, nothing too taxing, but brilliant for a de-stress and a bit of a laugh. But like I said, people who liked WoW don't seem to like this game. As I read somewhere else, it's a bit of an MMO for non-MMO players really.

Ok I have just installed the free two week trial to give it a go, although I have to say my character isnt quite as camp and dodgy as yours. Will post back in a few days with my thoughts.
