PlayStation Home Screenshots  by Craig D at 16:19

Playstation
Here's some PlayStation Home screenshots to go with confirmation that the beta will go live worldwide tomorrow, December 11th.

PlayStation Home, available as a free download*3 starting December 11, will launch directly from the PlayStation Home icon on the PlayStation®Network column of XMBTM (XrossMediaBar) on PS3. Users will be able to experience basic features and services of PlayStation Home, free of charge*4. PlayStation Home will allow open interaction among users, business partners and SCE, and will evolve with additional features including dedicated game spaces, special events and exclusive themed items, to further enrich the entertainment experience on the PS3 platform.

"PlayStation Home is truly a promising network community service on the PlayStation platform, made possible with the powerful combination of PS3's overwhelming computational power and PlayStation Network that covers many countries around the globe," said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCE. "We are committed to providing PS3 users with exciting gaming experiences with PlayStation Home and together with our partners and users, expand the new world of interactive entertainment as we move forward."

it has potential, there's VERY little to do in it a tthe moment though. The streamed film trailers in the 'theatre' are at least decent enough quality and I found a movie that looks good with Daniel Craig, called Defiance. When there's more content like being able to upload stuff from your ps3 it might be more interesting.

You don't 'see' anyones houses. You have to be invited back to theirs to get access to it. Yes there are things to do. There's games you can play with other people such as pool, checkers, chess, draughts etc (the pool game is pretty well done really) Then there's bowling or arcade games. At the moment there's 3 pretty addictive arcade machines you can play on with players top scores etc. That's what I mean by potential.. if they can have some classic arcade games on those machines like goldenaxe etc it'll be awesome. The movie theatre also has a selection of HD streamed movie trailers to watch... again, eventually they plan to have tv episodes etc. So it COULD be quite good when it comes out of Beta in March.

Also the game launching works quite well.. you can meet people and then just be chatting over the mic and decide to play a game and both launch games such as LBP. They're already showing what they're going to be making money on though. Clans / Clubs can be purchased on the psn store for £3.99 where you get a clubhouse in 'home' that everyone can meet up in. If you read the smallprint though you'll see it's £3.99 a month ! You don't start paying until March next year though but still ! Also you can only have 32 members in a 'club'

Installed it and will have a look at it tonight. Was rather disappointed with the slow download speeds though. It took like 10 mins to download 75 meg. It should have taken less than 30 secs. I hope I'm not going to have to sit through long waits to get content.

it times out a lot on connecting to the servers quite a bit when you play and try and log in Scrappy but after that it's fine. I guess the servers are getting raped, which is no surprise when you see the sheer amount of people everywhere all talking in voice-coms. I hope they fix it soon though.

Seemed to download fine for me but I do get a lot of trouble trying to log in

I heard bad things about it but when I tried it for myself I was actually quite surprised. I quite like it. Obviously it's going to get better, which is good.

Grant, wanna add me?

ralinn of course.
