Brothers in Arms interview  by Craig D at 15:51

PCXBoxPlaystation
Brothers in Arms Shacknews has asked Gearbox's president, Randy Pitchford a few questions about Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.

The questions cover realism, vehicles and of course multiplayer.

Shack: Tell us about the multiplayer, which we hear won't be standard deathmatch

Randy Pitchford: Brothers in Arms on-line is a total innovation - really quite scary for us. The game is squad versus squad - a battle of wits as much as a battle of skill. Every human in the game has AI controlled allies under their command. This makes a very interesting game play where you are using your team to do things like wait in ambush for the enemy to plow into them so you can jump out from the side and surprise them. Or you can use them to rush a flank after you discover and distract an enemy from the front. There are so many clever tactics that can be used with this system and, as far as I know, it's the first time anyone has ever had this kind of thing in a game like this.

Try to imagine playing an FPS on-line, but also having an RTS-like command ring with RTS like characters you can command through the map. Crazy, huh?

Also - we find it's really tough to differentiate which characters are human and which characters are AI. That says a lot. Amazingly, the tip off for me is that usually the human characters are the ones who appear to be acting more stupid

Great stuff, but I really wish there was a standard deathmatch based mode too. Perhaps in a mod shortly after release?
