Activision and Blizzard to Merge  by Craig D at 23:29

This is not exactly something I was expecting to see whilst browsing round the bbc site this evening. It seems that Blizzard and Activision are to merge, the new company will be known as Activision Blizzard and Blizzard's current owners Vivendi Universal will be the largest single shareholder.

Jean-Bernard Levy, Vivendi chief executive, said: "This alliance is a major strategic step for Vivendi and is another illustration of our drive to extend our presence in the entertainment sector.

"By combining Vivendi's games business with Activision, we are creating a worldwide leader in a high-growth industry."

A true competitor to EA?
