Sony To Consider A Bigger PS3  by James B at 19:34

Playstation
Sony have confirmed that they are considering launching a PS3 with a bigger hard drive, with many speculating an 80GB model is the most likely. Currently the PS3 comes in both 20GB and 60GB models, however the 20GB version is not available in Europe and has been discontinued in the US due to lack of demand.

Spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka said the decision is "in line with our strategy as we had planned to choose models based on consumer needs".

Bloomberg also reports that Sony is "considering introducing the model with a bigger hard disk", as stated by Fukuoka. He did not provide any further details.

Why the hell would they upgrade a 60 to an 80, seems a pointless waste of time, surely 120gb at LEAST would make more sense?

Cost model more likely. If it uses a 2.5" drive then the cost difference between an 80 and a 120 GB is quite a lot.

Why the **** does everyone care about a big HD in a console anyway? It's not like you'll be making friggin movies on it!

I agree with ralinn to an extent , my sounds only equal 9 Gig & my my picture weigh in at 11 Gig . But & its a big but , movies eat 2Gig each if you using near lossless H234 ( NeroDigital TM) so it can all add up quickly if you not careful. I don't even us it as a media PC yet , come Christmas when I go looking for a nice laser HDTV things will change i.e. I will buy a wireless keyboard / mouse & I can see myself filling the HDD quite quickly . Mind you I could always use my NAS for the big stuff & keep only my favorite media on the PS3 though in order to do that I will need to add Yellow Dog Linux & if I do that then running DivX would be an option ... oh thta will be another 10 Gig please thank you very much.
