Third Version Of Playstation 3 In The Works?  by James B at 12:15

Playstation
There's a story floating around that Sony are planning to bring out a third version of the Playstation 3. X-bit Labs claim this new iteration of the console would in fact be a media center, and not focused on gaming at all.

The "media-centric" PlayStation 3 will feature capabilities of consumer electronics devices and will be more focused on digital media content playback, rather than on gaming. Based on claims reportedly made by executives of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., PC Watch web-site reports that the PlayStation 3 "media-centric"-edition will feature anti-vibration mechanism on the Blu-ray disc drive, 512MB XDR memory, more advanced power supply unit and two HDMI connectors to divide audio and video data.

I've not read anything official about this at all yet, but if true you'd hope Sony have sorted their production problems first.

"will feature anti-vibration mechanism on the Blu-ray disc drive" what so the normal ps3 has a vibration problem on the drive ?

I dread to think how much this media PS3 will be, it would of been better if the normal one didnt have a bluray drive and this one did. Then it would be £350 not £550.

The anti virbration thing will be down to picture quality, the higher end dvds are built well and sturdy so there is no vibration while reading the disk. Either that or Sony has got a vibration issue on their hands, but as its being aimed at the home cinema crowd, I would guess that its to improve Blueray Dvd playerback.

Same could be said for the advanced power supply, getting a cleaner more steady supply of power can also imrove sound and picture quality. Before you start saying bullshit and the like, I have tried upgraded power supplies and cables for my devices and they do indeed make a good improvement all round especially the treble and bass and imaging. It looks like Sony really are going for the home cinema market here, or maybe the other versions of the ps3 were just shafted.

Looking at the estimated prices, I would definatly say that they are going for the home cinema market, having realised people like me would not use a standard ps3 as a dvd player of any sort.
