Wii Forecast Channel Released  by James B at 11:33

Nintendo
Wii I woke up this morning to find my Wii's disc slot pulsing blue. Turns out Nintendo had sent me a mail informing me that the Wii Forecast channel is ready to download. One swift firmware update later and I was happily checking the weather.
Although it sounds quite uninteresting, it's actually pulled off very well. After choosing your closest geographical region, the Wii gives you a nice detailed page of your local weather, with the option to scroll through calendar days. The real highlight though, is switching to globe mode. Here you're given a map of the UK which you can scroll around to find weather for each region. Zoom out further and you can drag the map around Europe, and then the world. As with everything with the Wii, it's a tactile and intuitive approach to a simple concept.

Not groundbreaking in any way, but certainly useful. Hopefully the News Channel and Opera browser will follow shortly.
