Crysis DX10 Movie  by Craig D at 15:58

PC
There's a new Crysis movie available for download on the Crysis game page, this is the HD version of the Direct X10 fly-through movie, it's roughly 90mb and runs for about 90 seconds. It's the movie featured in the pc.ign.com interview the other day.

It's nice to see some of what Windows Vista and Direct X will bring to gaming.

looks very nice, but did anyone else think that it seemed to slow down quite a bit in some places?

Not at all hob, its probs down to the fact that its a high definition video, and they need a powerful pc to run properly, so if you had anything open in the background or your cpu etc wasnt fast enough that could cause the slowdown.

lol my cpu should be upto the job quite easily

its not a hardcore slowdown just when it goes from area to area

perhaps its the guy doing the controls who just moves slightly slower

So should my fx57 m8, but if I have far too much shite running in the background I tend to notice slowdown, same goes for my intel duo laptop. I will watch the video again and see if I notice anything like that, I didnt notice any stuttering tho.

There are more interesting but older videos on the net about this game. Look for the ones showing the destructable environment. Up close this game is highly detailed but I agree that it is like an upgraded Farcry.

i think the brilliance of that is wasted on you lot

watch it again and look at the perfect shadowing on every blade of grass, totally realistic water, absolutly no pop up and many more things that are flawed in dx9

It does look pretty and there are far better video's but I agree. It does just look like an updated farcry and I won't be rushing out to upgrade my PC just to play it.

Of course it looks like a prettier farcry its the spiritural sequal to it, thats like saying you dont like the look of half life 2 because it looks like a prettier half life.

But HL2 is a sequal to HL. AFAIK, Crysis has nothing to do with Farcry. Also, HL2 looked nothing like HL1.

"this is only a good thing in my eyes"

It would be to me if it were FarCry 2, but it's not

It is the Far Cry or "crytek" engine its primary perpose is to run the next far cry game, but like the unreal engine etc.. it will be used for many other games too

Saying it looks like far cry is like saying the new BMW looks like a new BMW.

Its significant to see as this is the first game engine designed to usilise dx10 and thus gives us a glimse of what DX10 will be like on all other games and engines. I cant wait to see unreal engine 4 using dx10 but I think this will be a long time after the crytek engine games are already out.

I did'nt think crytek were having any think more to do with far cry, so it would be more like saying the new Kia looks like the new Audi (as they both have the same dev team).

Farcry used the Cry engine. Crysis uses an all new engine and has nothing to do with FarCry.

Despite Ubisoft using the unreal engine 3 for most recent titles I'd be supprised if they dont use the crytek engine for the next far cry like all previous versions. I suppose they did change engines midway through the tom clancy range, so who knows?

maybe someone could find out for sure..
