Japan To Get Wii With DVD Player & Other Wii News  by James B at 13:07

Nintendo
Wii Nintendo have announced that they plan to release an enhanced Wii in Japan with a DVD player. There are currently no plans to bring this model to US or Europe. Nintendo originally dropped DVD playback from the Wii in an effort to drive down production costs on the Wii.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least five devices in my house that can play DVDs, so I can't imagine this ever being an issue for me.

Thanks GamesIndustry.biz.

In other Wii related news forum posters on NeoGAF have posted some Wii tidbits from a new issue of Edge, including this interesting little piece:

Nintendo intended to bring Wii to shop shelves in the UK and US for £150 and $200, but became influenced by pressure from the larger retail chains, which raised concerns over margins and low so-called 'basket value' (ie, the amount of revenue generated from a customer's overall purchases at the till)

See, 150 quid if a pair price for that console. 180 is not imho. Maybe I'll forgive Nintendo a little.

At the end of the day i think all the retailers would still sell them if people are buying them, im not sure if I believe that entirely.
