Playstation 3 Bits & Bobs  by James B at 13:28

Playstation
There's a bunch of PS3 news and rumours flying around today, so here's a brief summary.

Eurogamer are reporting that the Playstation 3 aims to have every PSOne game available for download through an online Playstation store. Initially emulated games will only work through the PSP until emulation software is completed.

You're probably aware that PS3 controllers are wireless. The Lithium batteries will be non-removeable, effectively rendering the controller useless when they expire. However, Sony have spoken to GamesIndustry.biz and claim they will offer a service to replace controllers when the batteries do degrade (supposedly not for a few years). There's no word on how long such a replacement service would take, or indeed if it would be free though.

Finally, Bloomberg are claiming that Sony may not meet target PS3 shipment targets due to problems in Blu-Ray production.

"The honest answer is it's more of a target'' for PlayStation 3 shipments, Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said yesterday in an interview. "Clearly we've had production issues.''

I don't see a huge problem if the batteries last over a year, but when they fail: if it takes a week to get them replaced that's a week with no gaming!
