Intel cans 4ghz P4  by Craig D at 00:23

Saw on the Inquirer that intel has indeed dropped immediate plans for a 4ghz Pentium4, instead choosing to concentrate on other features.

theinquirer - According to a representative we spoke to at Intel this evening, the reason is part of its strategy shift to offering CPUs based not on frequency but on features such as additional cache, eventually dual cores, and other elements such as front side bus speeds.

There seems to be some sort of brick wall in the way of high processor speeds right now, heat and current leakage perhaps, I don't think we'll be seeing a 10ghz Pentium based on the Netburst architecture as originally planned.

Yeah I noticed this last night too, quite suprising Intel have changed their plans, they must have had no idea how much a pain the prescott was going to be for them. Its also funny to see AMD fans gloating - from many of the test reviews the new 90nm AMD chips ARE a little cooler, however thats only because they have a lower voltage and look like they'll ramp up in temperature quite quickly as they release faster chips, just the same problem as the prescott.
