Xbox 360 DVD Upscaling Finally on the Way?  by James W at 09:31

XBox
Microsoft have announced that an upcoming software update for their Xbox 360 console will allow support of the highest HD resolution 1080p, bringing it on par with the Playstation 3. This seems to be purely a battle of numbers with Sony, Microsoft apparently has no plans to create games that support this resolution - all titles could be upscaled to this resolution however. More interestingly though the update will finally allow the Xbox 360 to upscale DVD films to high definition resolutions.

More details over at Joystiq, Kotaku and 1up.com

It may be able to upscale dvds but no way will it still come close to the picture off even a midrange dvdplayer.

Slightly related: Nintendo said recently they decided not to include DVD-player with the Wii as everyone had decent DVD players already

I can agree with that, they are keeping the wii purely for gaming, which at its price tbh is a good idea.

Totally agree. I see no point in their being a DVD player at all. Cheaper the Wii the better IMO

It is prob juat a way to combat piracy, and this is just an excuse.
