The Price Of An Imported Playstation 3  by James B at 14:47

Playstation
As we all know, Playstation 3 will only be released in Japan and USA this year. Us fools in Europe aren't quite important enough it seems, so our only option is to import. Exporter Audio Cubes are pricing an import PS3 at $699.00 USD which comes to about £370 or €550. Note this is for the 20GB model, there's no word yet on how much a 60GB model will cost.

In short: unless you're pretty wealthy you won't be playing PS3 in Europe until next year.

Thanks to Kotaku for this eye-opener.

well, it's eitehr be short everywhere, or delay one whole major territory. Teh fact that europe is so many different countries means we get shafted more often that not.

US has double the size of europe and twice as many states as we have countries ;D So there'll be shortages anywhere, just seems to always piss on Europe

I can't remember any why I have the opinion that Sony are "smug bastards", but I do. Never before have I hoped a company fails in something and I feel really bad about it. I don't think the launch delay will do them any harm, by the time it gets to Europe the "competition factor" won't play as much as it would if it was here for Christmas. They're still going to shift plenty of units.

On the other hand, I'm loving my Nintendo side at the moment. There's a company it's easy to love!

Sorry for the spam, but there's a "banner id" in the URL of the link you've posted to Audio Cubes which it might be worth taking out

The maximum they've said will be available this xmas is 500,000 units worldwide total (ie USA and Japan) I think. By the time March comes around Wii could be in the millions region, and 360 will have a nice boost by those who couldn't get a PS3. So I still maintain that this will hurt them
