King of Fighters 2006 (PS2)  by Russ L at 23:19

Playstation
There's a nice little preview of King of Fighters 2006 over at gametrailers.com. I used to love the series when I was a kid so I'll be looking forward to trying this out. There seems to be quite a bit of ideas from the recent Street Fighter's in there as well, we'll have to see if that all works well in a 3D beat 'em up.

Grab it here!

When I first started watching the preview, the game seemed a little average. But seemed to spice up a bit towards the end when I saw the super moves. Although a lot of it looks a little dodgy, there are some parts I really like. I've been waiting for a faster 3D beat 'em up like this... I just hope it delivers

looks ok but nothing special at all. Beat-em ups seem to be a dying genre in general, can't see the point of updates when perfect iterations of the game exist alerady. SF Alpha 2 on the PSOne is good enough for me.

It's all I ever get here. If it's not on the PC, doesn't have gangsters, doesn't use a mouse and keyboard, doesn't involve wisards and orcs, then it has %70 chance of people juding it before playing it or people saying it's not their bag (just an observation!)

I judge very game fairly but tbh it has to be a special 3D beat-em-up to really make me go 'yes please' these days, and i doubt ANY PS2 game has the ability to that in this day and age. The genre is crowded.

King of fighters has always been a very good beat-em-up though.

all depends on the way you play it. Someone with good skill will always beat a button masher. I agree with you malis, the only beat em up I've wanted on the PS2 is Street fighter collectors edition. Apart from that nothing has caught my eye.

I agree, a good player will always beat a button masher cos the good skilled player obviously knows what they're doing, lol.

Indeed. It's all about how a game is designed. Not about it being a beat em up. Take DOA4 for instance. You can't button mash in that. If you do, you die.

(away from beat em ups) take Devil May Cry 3 and God of War for instance, both so similar yet so unique. You can go through the whole game of god of war using nothing but the same one button combo (button mashing), do this in DMC3 and you'll die every time you try it.

Same goes for DOA and Tekken. You could button mash a lot in the older street fighters but in the recent versions they've made far more skill based.
