UK Police critical of Reservoir Dogs game  by James B at 16:35

PCXBoxPlaystation
EuroGamer are reporting that The UK's Association of Chief Police Officers has attacked forthcoming game Reservoir Dogs. Eidos's upcoming action game featuers scenes of graphic violence, executions and the ability to take hostages.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, an ACPO representative said: "Anything that encourages violent emotions, including such emotions towards members of the police service, is particularly disturbing and can only be described as offensive.

"It is disappointing to find violent video games on the market that may cause psychological harm to those who play them."

The BBFC has given the game an 18 rating and seems to think the violence is no stronger than any other 18-rated game. Reservoir Dogs has been banned in Australia and will be out this Autumn on PC, PS2 and Xbox.

Not sure about this one. Normally I laugh at the link between games and real-life violence etc. But watching a traielr for this I did find some scenes disturbing. You can take people hostage and threaten them, causing neraby police to drop their guns. However you can torture or execute hostages as you see fit etc. Dunno.. have to play it to see if it's any more graphic than GTA or something.

I gotta admit that I'm at least very undertanding of the police's position on this. Gangster culture doesn't need any more encouragement.

Yeah I must agree with you 2. Reservoir Dogs however was a fantastic film and it could no doubt become a very good game. Just not suitable for mentally unstable sods.

i can understand the police's stance on this but i dont necessarily fully agree with it

personally i think parents and schools should spend more time teaching a bit more common sense

Disturbing?! Christ! What is the world coming to? Looks no worse then any other gory game like GTA, etc. Difficult to take games seriously i think, although i suppose there are some deranged people out there.

Cutting off a hostage's ear, forcing police to drop their guns so I can execute them all. Seems to go beyond 'cartoon' violence into gratuitous imo. Each to their own!

This was in todays paper too.

have to agree the behaviour in this is way beyond anything in the GTA series. mutilating hostages and forcing police to disarm and then shooting them is just plain dispicable.

Yes even with an 18cert (yeah like **** thats gonna stop the 11yr old down the street begging his mommy for the game)

There is enough shitty music and crappy tvshows promoting drugs, gangs, and guns. without adding any more to the sum.
