Browser wars set to heat up?  by James W at 09:24

The New York post has interesting speculation on whether Google could be entering the web browser market. Having recently hired some high profile coders from large companies such as Microsoft and Sun it sould seem Google is in a good position to do this. While there is no offical word from Google, this would seem to a possible move from the company that likes to test the water with various projects.

nypost.com - The browser strategy is supported by other clues as well. Last month, Google hosted Mozilla Developer Day on its campus, a gathering of programmers that work together to build sequels to the re-named Netscape browser. Mozilla, which is "open source" and available to anyone, could be shaped to Google's specifications and be embedded with Google search, Gmail free e-mail and other Google applications.

Meh. I don't really care too much for google as a company. It's search engine is slowly failing (in my eyes) to perform an impossible job. Mozilla and its extensions already do a fine job, for me, providing Google search and, I believe, G-mail plug-ins.

Yeah, though the more browsers the more they will push to be the best so can only be better for us end users. Knowing google they wont make some half-assed browser either. Think it will be interesting to see what they come up with, sure im happy with FF but like the idea of more choice.

I dissed the search engine. As I said, it's an impossible job that Google has because when there are so many sites, but it's a pain to find what you really want without coming across lots of tosh. Google's reasonable for research (and for long precise search strings), but on a consumer level it's getting worse. This is all IMO, of course.

I think google is excellent for my users however yes for a certain market its terrible. For me I usually get there in the end after adding and removing keywords.. without a big index (yahoo style) its hard to see how it can be improved. Better method of indexing might be the answer, rather than just filtering all the words the particular site contains.
