It's not often that anyone sits down and thinks about the best looking 2D titles. GameDaily have done just that and have plenty of screenshots included as well.

The old stuff isn't pretty, but go and put Super Mario Bros. 3 next to Yoshi's Island and you'll see what we're getting at. 2D may be on its way out, but it's still a very attractive dimension, one that's been used to create a host of exceptional graphics. Such titles as Rayman, Super Mario World, Sonic and Knuckles, and Gunstar Heroes shine on their respective platforms, but only a handful can be considered as the most gorgeous looking 2D games of all time.
