Half-Life 2 Soon?  by Craig D at 20:41

hl2 Saw on the mighty Shacknews that some rumours that Half-Life 2 was close have been confirmed, a couple of quotes from Gabe Newell follow;

"Yes, the RC went to VU yesterday"

"Yes. Getting close"

RC being release candidate obviously. I reckon it's fairly safe to say that release can now be measured in weeks rather than months, but don't bet too much money on it.

It seems possible then that VU will send the RC back to Valve and ask for amendments/changes. This could still be a month away.

Indeed, although another news site quotes valve as saying the release is good for 2004... which given all the delays, gives a little assurrance they arnt going to suddenly spring an Autumn release on us or something silly.

Well, it's already a year late, and the gfx engine is unlikely to surpass even facr-cry, never mind doom3, further delays could be catastrophic for long-term sales

That said though, none of the next gen engine/games have really taken off multiplayer wise.. doing okay, but not widespead, so there is still a void to fill.. and we all known its not all about graphics, as long as the graphics are 'good enough'

This is true, but basically CS is well past it's sell by date, new engine or not, it's tiem for CS2, I expect you'll see it and TF2 by next summer anyway.

There will be no CS2. Only CS:Source. Lots of peeps having been referring to CS:Source as CS2.

CS:Source is just to keep peopel playign CS while CS2 gets written imho, I susepct that CS2 is already very, very well into production, after HL2 ships, we'll start hearing about TF2 and CS2.

NO NO NO You're wrong.
Gabe clearly stated in one of his posts that there is no CS2. Only CS:Source. Think about it. Valve take so bloody long to write software and debug it. Why on earth would they spend all that time on CS:souce simply to make it redundant in less than a years time. Get this CS2 shit out your head And stop speculating

Mani's right - Gabe was just addressing the issue of people calling CS:Source CS2, and trying to correct them - he definitely did NOT rule it out. As far as I know, no-one's said there either is, or is not, going to be a CS2.
