Playstation 3 UK Price to be £425?  by James W at 22:33

Playstation
Gamestation have added pre-orders for the Playstation 3 to their website. The price is listed as £424.99, subject to manufacturer's confirmation. This would make the PS3 60GB system £145 more expensive than the deluxe 360 package, and £215 more than the basic 360 package. Ouch.

thats not tha point i was making, as i know stan would never fogive me

but if hd/br is the new media for games then games that use it for one consol will for the other, so you'll end up paying for a hd drive for the 360 to get the hd games

Dunno if I'll be getting it or not. It's the only console I've had to have a serious think about really.

I'll have to wait for the games first... I got a feeling Sony will be bringing out the big guns earlier then we may think. Like FFVII, DMC 4 and maybe even Kingdom Hearts 3. Think they're the only things that can save them now.

Sony always aimed for teens, with that price they've pretty much shot them selfs in the foot with their target audience.

The spec looks good & as far as HD is concerned I would not notice the difference between an PS3 & Nakamichi , I am just not that interested in the minutia ... if it play HD & pumps 5.1/DTS all will be well. As Ralinn said it will be the software which will decide for me if the box is worth £425. Hell I will probably get a DH-DVD & that will be my movie machine.

Dont try and make me flame u spit, people who use a console as a dvd player should be shot, add to the fact it will be a hi def dvd, and you wont be getting anywhere near to the detail you would be if you had a semi decent dedicated dvd player.

Although it has to be said i exspect the first hi def dvd players to be costing at least around the price of the ps3 so i do see a fair few people using it for their dvd player at least for a while, as the ps2 was the machine that took the dvd format to the mainstream in my opinion.

Stan m8 how do we know the player's HD performance is going to be so poor as to make it intolerable ? I quote DVD town on the performance of the Xbox 360 "The video quality was decent. I regularly play movies on an up converting Denon 1910 connected through HDMI, so I have pretty high standards." I would expect Sony to surpass this performance due to their existing experience in this market place.
Its to early to say but one this is certain & that is that our friends at Sony have an agenda here to make BD the defacto HD format & the easiest way to do that is to provide a large install base for the media companies. The consoles primary purpose will be gaming but is good to have a HD player of some description while the market decides what its going to do & to be honest the fact the PS3 will run Linux , support open network standards are things which all appeal to me . P.S. I thought you would kick off & I am most impressed with your control LOL

erm i think ill just spend the money and buy a TOP spec 360 and a WII with the accessories.

Unless they make the linux source in the ps3 open source in which case i would expect the linux community too release some shit hot apps giving users loads of extra content etc.. but even so id wait too see which way the market swings.

We know the performance of it because its built as a console not as a dvd player, i dont give a flying **** that this guy thinks the xbox360 is a good dvd player because it isnt, and while the denon dvd player he has isnt bad it is very very low end and the cheapest dvd player they make, so it isnt like he is a videophille or even has any idea what a good dvd player is. If he thinks the ps3 will be a good dvd player it just goes to show how little he knows. The ps2 was a piss poor dvd player and the ps3 wont be any different, i know all of this from my experiance. Even a 40 quid pioneer dvd player blows the living crap out of the ps2 for a dvd player, they are built to a budget and that budget is all about gaming, they dont give a flying toss about the build quality when it comes to sound or picture quality from a dvd player.

I tell a lie its the second cheapest one they make, but still you really cant comment on quality if thats the quality of your hardware.

Stan is part right and part wrong. Personally, I think that someone who cites only one piece of hardware (The Denon 1910), for comparrison has no basis for comparrison whatsoever.

I do think however, it depends on he rest of your AV setup, if this guys has some 28" dinosaur for example, EVERY DVD player he auditions on it is going to look good, or bad, whichever way you look at it. To audition any piece of kit, the rest of the gear in your setup needs to be reference quality. Anyway, anyone who does have really decent gear will have top agree with Stan, for the rest of you however, it matters not.

I will say this though, since no one has actually taken the time to witness and test the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player, saying it's definitely going to be crap is slightly imbicilic, especially when you consider that many of the movie releases on Blu-Ray will undoubtedly be PS3 optimized.

There are two types of gamers in this world, there are those who are the so-called 'early adopters', w
