PS3 Specification  by James W at 13:12

Playstation
Continuing the onslaught of Sony news today, we have more details about the Playstation 3. Eurogamer are reporting the 20GB version of the Playstation 3 will not provide inputs for memory sticks, SD or compact flash cards, Wi-Fi options or a HDMI output. The more expensive 60GB version is scaled back from the prototype, with a single HDMI port (rather than two), one ethernet ports (rather than three) and four USB ports (rather than six).

We can guess at the price further as 499/599 Euros has been mentioned which will more accurately translate to UK prices. Currently the exchange rate would make that £342/410.

True, although you can say the same about the 360. Only now can I see some upcoming games that are visually want you expect from a next-gen console.

I have to be honest based on the price and the games announced for it, chances are i will be going 360 and waiting for the ps3 to be at least half its price. Its another way for them to make extra cash for very little build cost reo.

They spoke about the ps3 quite a bit on Radio 1 today from E3 and most people were really really disapointed with it graphically but loved the new controller which is just like what the Wii one sounds like.

So the ps2 controller is the best highlight of the ps3 lol, not sure about the motion stuff.. can see that being more suited to the Nintendo

I'm sure they'll improve the graphics in the games when they become better at working with the hardware, but they were just saying it looks comparable to the 360, which for £400 (confirmed on radio1 at E3) is a big price to pay for nothing better than an xbox at the moment.

I agree and for sony saying its going to be part of peoples who cinema is just being stupid, people who know about this stuff would NEVER use a console as part of a home cinema setup. So the extra cost for that part is just a waste again, i have to say the more i see of the ps3 the less i like. So far its looking like it will be the Wii for the fun games and the 360 for the others for me.

Plus the fact that it is meant to be a "sacd" player but has no firewire or external 5.1 outs mean u will only be able to play the sacd at a lower quality and in sterio, so surely that rules out the point of sacd. They could use the next generation hdmi socket to take the sound from sacd as well as the picture, but do you have any idea how few amps are able to take a hdmi input and be able to output it to your tv without any loss of picture. Let me put it this way my av amp is just over a year old and is worth 3.5k and it cant accept the new hdmi standard.

Plus not only will your av amp have to support the new hdmi standard it will have to be able to accept a Hi definition signal and then be able to ouput that signal again via another hdmi socket. This really does limit the amount of amps that can do it, not many people will own a av amp under a year old that costs at least 1k.
I was tempted to buy a ps3, but the more i see of it the less i want one now, i will be buying the new nintendo console and a 360 though.
