The Wii Revolution Cometh  by Craig D at 19:28

Nintendo
Wii So um, Nintendo have chosen and announced the name for their upcoming console, no longer will it be called the Revolution, but it shall be known as Wii, pronounced weee, I mean "we". Hold the potty jokes please.

Introducing … Wii.

As in "we."

While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it's really not about you or me.

It's about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

<snigger>Wee Weee</snigger>

Silly names aside, probably won't stop me getting one.

Well personally, compared to the PS3 and XBOX360 specs, I'd have preferred them to call it "iSS!" not "Wii". Heheheheee!

Jokes aside though, this quote from Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president does make some sense.

"I think people have to look back and let it settle in," Kaplan said. "I'm sure people felt the same way when Google was named - or the iPod. Napster. Yahoo. There's a whole host of unusual names that have become a part of everyday conversation and I think they're viewed now as unique."

Although slightly strange i can see where he's coming from. And Wii is short and more universal than 'revolution'

I like the fact they say they are pushing to make it more about games not graphics, but time will tell
