Heroes of Might & Magic V Hands-On  by James W at 18:20

PC
A preview of Heroes of Might & Magic V is up at IGN, if turn based strategy is your thing this one sounds like it's worth a look.

I'm going to gush a little bit about the art here. While it's a style we've seen before - a bit cartoony and very colorful fantasy - they've inserted a level of detail in all of the units and environments that it's hard not to be completely drawn in and forget the rest of the world for a bit. The overland map is full of life as trees sway in the breeze, windmills churn, and roosters fight among the pumpkin patches. The tactical map is a little more stale as the life revolves around all of the creature and unit types fighting. Each of the units is animated well and some of them have some wonderful spells and abilities to throw around. Finally, if the city screens all look as impressive as the Empire's, it'll actually be a great treat to visit cities for once.
