Playstation 3 is Region Free  by Craig D at 08:10

Playstation
This post on Joystiq confirms that Sony's PS3 games will be region free. And also that online multiplayer gaming might possibly be free, interesting.

It's possible for developers to put all the TV formats - PAL, NTSC, HDTV, and so on - on the disc.

Quote from the BBC News site 'The basic service will be free and will also allow users to chat and send e-mails. Sony is expected to charge for premium offerings, much like Microsoft charges a monthly subscription for some Xbox Live services.'

So looks like the gaming online won't be free?

thats exactly like the xbox one, the free silver one being messaging and downloadable content, gold being the gaming side of which u need to pay for.
