Free PlanetSide Service  by James W at 14:03

PC
There's news from EuroGamer that the PlanetSide team are planning a free, but limited version of their MMO.

Access to the massively multiplayer FPS will be limited in terms of BattleRank and CommandRank. "Essentially, new players will be able to have access to any part of the game but they will be limited on the diversity of their arsenal," said developer Enrico Pallazzo in a recent forum post outlining various new additions to the game.

The new service is expected mid-February so expect more news around then.

It looks interesting but I would rather rack up points in BF2 . Me thinks PlanetSide is suffering player attrition ...

tbh i dont like the idea of a mmorpg in a fps game, i want to shoot some one in the head and them die because i am the better player, i dont want to have to shoot some one 20 times as much just cos the guy plays it 24/7.

Its not like that, you just get different weapons and such, u cant own everything all the time, headshots are still headshots

it's not better players get more.. if any of you have played Tribes 2 (with the different armour outfits and weapon configs you could carry) it's kind of like that.. you get 20 points to spend on skills.. you can learn to be a pilot, engineer etc.. learn to wear heavier armour etc. If you've played it for 3 years you can still die to someone who's just joined if they have the right kind of weapons (armour piercing etc) It's an awesome game with 500 people assaultiing a base in various vehicles etc. I still have my account and play sometimes. Headshots are indeed still headshots (with a sniper rifle) and the netcode is good for a game of its size.
