Quake 4 Multi-Threaded Performance  by Craig D at 21:15

PC
There's been a fair bit of speculation about the recent Quake4 and now COD 2 patch, does Intel's involvement in the Quake IV patch in particular mean it's been optimised to the detriment of AMD cpu's? FiringSquad actually run some benchmarks to find out and we get some pleasant suprises for owners on dual core cpu's, Intel or AMD.

Mmm I tried this yesterday actually, benchmarked before and after the patch and gained a wopping 1fps. (overclocked AMD X2 4200 and ATI X850 XT PE). Actually the only real impact this patch had for me is Quake now occationally crashes.

Even though an X850 isnt exactly bad it seems its enough of a bottleneck to negate any of the SMP stuff. I changed to low detail and using the same test demo the average FPS went from 96 to 141fps (previously 73 to 74fps). So if you have an insane graphics SLI setup then this patch is probably of interest.

Why not register and have your say?
