Games Becoming Too Expensive?  by Craig D at 12:44

PCXBoxPlaystationNintendo
This story on The Tech Report talks about the re-emergence of $60 games with the launch of the Xbox 360 and whether or not that's too much money.

Ok, let's do some math. $60 at todays exchange rate of 0.577 $/£ is £34.62. If all next-gen games cost that much in the UK, we'd be jumping for joy. Simple fact is they all cost £45 which is getting towards $80 a game. You Americans should think yourself lucky. I for one know damn well who is being ripped off, and it's not you guys.

Just get your games from the US websites. Or are they region locked?

the time will come where you pay for hours of playing, not for the software itself. microsoft has these offers for office-use right now, steam sell software over the net, time goes on. one day you have a small thing like a cellular phone with all computer functions you need (or the companies tell you you need *g*) and use software live over the net. remember the pad in otherland from tad william ...

i for myself wait until the first hype of a new game is over and get it at amazon for a lower price (and some affiliate cutoff bf2 was at 40 Euro's instead of 50 (in germany). right now, i have 250 hours played, which is 16cent/hour.

i remember some posts where ppl say "if you like the software, buy it for supporting the programmers". games are mostly not open source, the programmers have their money allready (and are fired)...
