The idea behind first-person shooter Republic Commando isn't just to throw out another Star Wars game. The idea is to make a squad-based action title in which you're part of a computer-controlled team that requires very little fiddling around, planning, and complicated orders. According to associate producer Chris Williams, the design mandate was accessibility.

"We want to make a game where you can control your squad with the flick of a button," said Williams. He's obviously setting Republic Commando apart from the painstaking detail of the Rainbow Six games. "layers won't be spending 15 minutes planning their mission, then drop a grenade in the wrong place and have to start all over."
