Sony Does the Right Thing  by Craig D at 10:50

PC
It seems Sony has now activated an exchange program for CD's that are infected with it's crazy assed XCP DRM, as a bonus you'll also get the MP3 files of your legally purchased music.

In other Sony Rootkit news, it seems that the XCP copy protection system itself is in part stolen from a open source package written buy DVD Jon, the very guy the MPAA dragged through the courts for years for cracking DVD DRM. Still, the LGPL license that package was released under does at the very least require that it's use be acknowledged and credited, it wasn't. So in a bizare twist of fate, could we see DVD Jon suing Sony and or First4Internet the British company who wrote this ill fated DRM?

Hopefully Sony's recall and exchange program will bring and end to this whole sorry situation, but I have a feeling it won't just yet.

you can just hold Shift when inserting it to stop the auto play installing the file. Although it is against the agreement.. but who cares.

The other solution I've se today is to simply add some clear tape to the outer rim of the cd, therreby rendering the data track unreadable
