Top 40 Games Right Now  by Shane L at 08:52

PC
Taken from the GameSpy stats and courtesy of Voodoo Extreme these are the top games being played online right now.

1. Half Life - 31248 servers, 71626 players
2. Half Life 2 - 18927 servers, 53538 players
3. Battlefield 2 - 6457 servers, 36300 players
4. Call of Duty - 5862 servers, 11703 players
5. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - 3249 servers, 10401 players
6. Americas Army: Special Forces - 1906 servers, 7970 players
7. Unreal Tournament 2004 - 2619 servers, 7076 players
8. Neverwinter Nights - 1316 servers, 5586 players
9. Call of Duty 2 - 1145 servers, 4364 players
10. Quake 3: Arena - 2158 servers, 4165 players

Interesting to note a 7 year old game still sits at number 1 and Battlefield 2 jumping in at number 3, is there any game that will dislodge Half Life and their mods?

Can't believe so many people still play HL1... most of which is probably cs1.6 I guess.

Could be interesting ... HL2 is not growing or dominating in the way HL managed to but when one considers the number of Moders who are tuned into the HL one cannot help thinking that valves dominance will continue in this space. Financially though its EA who are getting the best return on their investment. I noticed that there are Fack all Doom 3 serves on the radar & the Q4 reviews don't lead me to think that this trend will change any time soon. Bring on the BF2 mods &Quake Wars!

I think with HL mods its just a case of find a server, jump in and bobs your uncle AND can be picked up for next to nothing.

Quakewars does indeed look stunning.

Also interesting to note 35 of the top 40 are FPS games.

That's because gamespy can't track MMO's (or any other game that doesn't use their master servers)
