Playstation 3 Expensive?  by Craig D at 13:19

Playstation
There a nice little piece over at the inquirer that's based on some comments by Sony's President Ken Kutaragi at a recent Playstation meeting in Tokyo.

"…the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households."

His words, allegedly. It also goes on to say that Sony are expecting a life cycle of 10 years for the PS3. I think that's fanciful to be honest. I can't see it being more than 5 at best. Graphics technology is advancing too quickly, add to that the emergence of hardware accellerated physics and you have a recipe for a console that will be ready for the childrens room in about 5 years, not your front room as Sony is hoping.

What a dumb thing for him to have said. Translation problems maybe?

Totally agree about the 10 years too - that's way too long, especially if rival makers are going to have shorter lead times between models. If xbox720 comes out in 6 years (or so), I bet Sony aren't going to just leave them to it.

Perhaps they mean people will still be buying games for it in 10 years time, which I suppose is possible, they just won't be the cutting edge games, just Tetris 2010 or something.

Yeh, 10 years life span? That's like, still playing on a Sega Mega Drive 2, when you have a computer with a 512mb GFX card in
