Running Battlefield 2 on a Geforce 4  by Shane L at 17:25

Battlefield 2 Logo Found this great little forum thread over on EvilAvatar which discusses at great length the issues with a GF4 and BF2. In my opinion a game as good as this needs a decent mid-range card at least to fully enjoy it, alright you may get it to run on a Geforce 4 but you may well miss out on the wow factor. Maybe retailers around the world should try doing a card/game bundle with Battlefield 2?

Then why does it run on slower cards such as the ATi Radeon 8500? The performance of this card is no better then the GeForce 4 line except for the inclusion of Pixel Shader 1.4 support.

It was interesting to note the Editors comments on EvilAvatar;

Editor: An unofficial GeForce 4 patch is available through sources I can't link for those readers who want to attempt to run this title on their older hardware.

Surely you couldn't run BF2 on a GF4, can you? apparently the patch is on the original article.

Yup, time to upgrade GF4 people. Tehnology must move on as mmust games, if companies spend months making it work on older hartdware, everything will take longer and be buggier. That will only hasten the demise of the PC as a popular gaming platform.

tbh i am glad they didnt, look what valve done to cs by trying to make the netcode work on worse connections. You aint got the pc or connection to play a game tough luck, dont ruin it for people who have.

I dont think u should be harsh on people with Mildly old PC's says 3 years or younger. I mean u cant spend Hundreds of quid every year doing it up. Its worse than a console! But Net Connections, definately. If your playing on 56k u shouldnt be playing at all, even consoles wont let you play with less than half a meg connection!

Well if you want to actually enjoy playing games on it then you have to. Thats not to say you need premium kit.. the 6600 GT is not much over £100
