Counter-Strike cheats meet their match ?  by Shane L at 10:49

Seems Gabe Newell and Valve have finally had enough and decided to clamp down on cheating sites and cheat creators.

In an article on Slashdot it goes on to say..

according to a post by Gabe Newell on HL2-Fallout, who confirms: 'We've started taking legal action against cheating (cheat-sites, cheat creators,...) both in the US and abroad.'

It also touches on OGC which is one of the most widely used cheats in CS land and how the creators of OGC are seeking legal advice.

In my opinion this is about 3 years too late and its not only cheats that have ruined CS but the other elements that happens to tag along with the game, hitboxes, general attitude to name but a few.

The 1st attempted prosecution will be interesting to say the least.

Several points I guess. Not least of which is that it's costing valve money to defend against these people, they could therefore be said to be financially damaging Valve.

Agreed though, most of the other issues are moral, perhaps not legal.

This is interesting. I'm confused as to how cheating is illegal, too - but that's partly because I don't know enough about cheating. Is there any code modification required for cheating? Cos if there is, surely that's against the T&Cs.

It would only be valves first prosecution, other companys like blizzard i think it was have already tried this. I dont follow wc3 stuff so dont know what the result was but its blatently a big deterent for big cheat sites.
There was a similar news post on my anti-cheat site, click over the weekend. < /pimp>

Thing is though its hardly the cheats that are annoying, its all the other things that come with cs like cfg altering ect.

By cfg altering I assume you mean netcode stuff, which is possible to a degree in most games and is annoying but not even remotly as damaging as cheating has been to the CS community.

Yes I agree but with cheats you rarely get them in matches/competitive games more just on publics then you can make the choice to go to another server.

Unless a lot of peeps still cheat in games...wilzOOO a prime example
