Firefox 0.9 Released  by James W at 14:07

Firefox Firefox has become a very popular browser so thought it would be worth passing on news of an update. Key changes include:
- A new default theme, Winstripe
- A new browser migration tool, allowing you to easily switch to Firefox from IE or Opera
- New theme and extension managers
- Reduced download size
- A new help system
- Improvements in speed and minor fixes

Most of the updates seem quite minor but useful all the same. The link below to the screenshots also has a good look at whats new, well worth reading. I'm not really a fan of the new theme, if you agree then check out the neowin link below as in the comments you'll find a link to the old theme!

  • ftp.mozilla.org - Download
  • squarefree.com - Full changelog

    ** update#2 **
Today Firebox's big bro', Mozilla, has been updated to 1.7! Since this will be the new stable baseline (since 1.4) we can expect the next Firefix and Thunderbird to be based on this version.

Firefox is cut right down. A lean, mean browsing machine. The installer is only 5mb.

Its basically just the mozilla browser cut down as mani says. The menus and appearance are different to mozilla, nothing drastic though. Personally I use Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for email (thunderbird being a modified version of the email component of mozilla)

Fs I've downloaded the update, it imported all my favs. But now it's gone back to the default skin and won't let me install any new skins

Skin format has changed a little, I guess it'll be a little while before they get updated properly.

Its quite a long read but interesting if you want more insight into the history of Mozilla and the ups an downs they experienced along the way.

aye i switched from mozilla 1.x to firefox after i made sure small toolbar icons were available and i could change the theme from that horrible default one. Using the modern theme, which is just mozilla 1.x theme. Only theme i like, cant stand all these xp/teletubbie ones that seem to be so popular
