CPL to host 1.6 Counter-Strike tournament  by Shane L at 19:00

PC
CPL So the CPL have finally seen sense and decided to hold a 1.6 CS tournament after all, they are still going to host the Counter-Strike : Source tournament aswell but the prize money for the CS tournament is a lot smaller than the CSS competition.

The CPL announced today that it will hold a $50,000 Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament at the Cyberathlete Extreme Summer Championships to be hosted July 6 - July 10, 2005 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. While the CPL is committed to Counter-Strike:Source, a large number of Counter-Strike teams remain loyal to CS 1.6 and have asked for an opportunity to compete at the summer event. The CPL realizes that many of those teams have given years of patronage to its events and has responded by offering them a CS 1.6 tournament.

Not long until the final nail is hammered into Counter-Strike's coffin then.

I'm guessing this will be it's final CPL, so that will presumably be that before too long.

What was the prize before? Cos $50,000 sounds pretty expensive to be a "final nail".

Nail in the coffin my arse. They are now running two counter-strike tournaments. I much prefer the CS:S community at the moment. It seems to have a much more mature collection of players. All the games we've had on the ED ladder have been good natured and fun. There seems to be less of a pro-gamer attitude amoungst source players.

I meant 1.6 James as its virtually dead now anyway.

Thing is its a matter of when the established teams move over to source and not if
