Planetside 2 :

No bullshit dogfights like in Battlefield nowadays
Plays exactly like BF2
Would appeal to BF 2142 players
Epic scale

Fun, but how do you...win? I played a coupla hours and nobody wins. Kinda takes the sting out of it for me. Good solid gaming though!

I assume you're talking about Planetside.

Ps1 was way ahead of its time and used to be £9 a month. Back in 56k modem and ISDN days.

They went with a free to play model this time. You can unlock everything in game just by playing (except cosmetic stuff like camouflage etc) They offer a monthly fee option for faster leveling and give you 500 credits each month for thr in game store.

I went with the Alpha pack option which was £30 while in beta which got me 12 unlocked guns. 4500 ingame credits (a weapon is 700 to buy) and 6 months of 50% more xp.

Basically though you can play it all for free and just unlock weapons by using the cert point you get. Cert points even tick up while you're offline too and a gun costs 1000 certs. About a weeks play. Everything else upgrade wise ranges from 30 to 1000 certs for scopes. Grips. Mines. Etc.

Great fun game and plays just like bf2. Theres no one team wins gameplay. It's an ever evolving battle across 3 continents (soon to be linked by sea battles too from dev interviews) They're also adding in locking continents too apparantly. So one team can control a whole continent for a few hours if you push the other teams out.

Add me in game on Mallory if you want. My in game name is Midnight too.

I might do that, Midnight.

I very much enjoy playing it, but the lack of actual resolution is a problem for me - it's the same with Minecraft (vastly different games, I grant you) and the likes of some SimCity titles - they don't have a 'win' to chase, so I lose interest.

Maybe I just like getting a digital pat on the head...

Oh there's plenty of that still. Fighting in a 48 man platoon for an hour trying to take a heavily fortified base has the same effect for me. Same with defending, especially when both of the other teams are trying to take the base at once and it's a huge 3 way battle and you come out on top

When they flesh it out and add some of the missing things that were in PS1 it'll be more attuned to what you want.

January they're adding a load of the other vehicles from PS1 too, then adding the ability to fly your clan flag from captured bases.

Despite the huge amount of players you get known fast too. Especially if you work together a lot with people. I fly Galaxies (Transport) and Liberators (3 man bombers) a lot and always get whispers for seats or pickups etc.
