Anyone been watching the google IO event live on youtube ? The stuff they are making looks completely awesome.

I've just spent 30 minutes watching them showing off google TV. It's a box that sits between your TV and current Sky / Virgin etc box. It overlays a UI on your TV and lets you search for content. You can say search for "the big bang theory" it'll show a drop down list letting you choose to search the web, or even switch to a channel showing your show live.

They are changing youtube to become an online PVR to record shows from google tv and upload them for viewing anywhere in the world.

If you own an Android device you can use it to voice search for shows or content, if you're browsing a website on your phone you can 'push' it to your TV - the same with all the apps on android - including games, you can push those from your phone to play on the big screen.

They've partnered with Sony and Logitech to make standalone boxes and new TV's are coming out with it equipped by the end of this year. It looks completely awesome in action.

Read some of the TV stuff but tbh I'm just not interested in the internet on my TV at present.

Do you think once Google and Tesco are the world's only remaining superpowers they'll go to war?

It's not just "internet on your TV" though, it's a much better way of finding what you want to watch and record and when.

Should also check out the BBC's proposed canvas system then, has a similar goal and is also a new set top box type thingy.

Yeah it looks ok but I prefer googles method of having an online PVR I can watch anywhere from my android phone too. Plus all the Android apps being able to be pushed to the TV and the fact google have millions to put behind it to stop it failing.
